Nothing Much

Hello!!!

I haven't been doing much with my hair. I have falling back in love with my puffs. Its simple, easy and quick to do. After the Walgreens Shea Moisture sale, I have been using a lot of the Restorative Conditioner as a leave in and the Curl & Style Milk for brushing up my puff.

I have been reading alot of blogs about "what's in your spray bottle"? Right now, tap water (which some curlies use bottle water), Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Conditioner. I usually switch it up from time to time using different conditioners.

Next thought: Apple Cider Vinegar...let's see "what it do" with my hair :)!

Soft and Fluffy

My last thought was to try a roller set. I didn't exactly try it, but I had an eventful weekend of playing in my natural hair that ended up looking like a roller set.

I decided to trim my ends....Dec 10 (see side pic) my thought was to trim, but that wasn't what I got. The stylist actually cut about what seemed 2 inches off which set me back about a month or two on my hair growth. This thought left me very nervous about cutting my ends. I knew I needed to cut them to trigger some growth, but I didn't want a lot cut off.

My aunt found a stylist to cut her natural hair in to the inverted bob, which came out really cute, but I didn't want to cut "all" of my hair just to get a cute cut. That was part of my frustration while it was permed to find the perfect cut. So I decided to just clip the ends.

This is the first process I took the first day: Shampoo/Condition with Alma Botanical (still loving it),CHI Silk Infusion.

I used a flat iron to straighten my hair...I should be in the 60's. My step son said I look like Beyonce in Dreamgirls :/.

After this first process, I thought my hair was super huge and would not last me walking out my house to my vehicle, so I wet my hair back to coily.

The next morning, I still wanted to do something with my hair, so I did the first process again, but I let my aunt use her flat iron and she did a MUCH better job.

The salon of choice was Hair Cuttery with Syliva. I thought she did a great job. Now what do I do? I have worn my hair it it's coily state for 8 months now and I don't know how to act with straight hair!!!!!

I decided to two strand twist sections of my hair and put a little Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk on the ends, pinned curled the twist, wrapped with a scarf and then off to bed in hopes of a cute do for the week.

TADAHHHHH! I love it!!! Its so soft and fluffy! I put a little Shea Moisture Curl Enhancement Smoothie and a head band.

The question is, how long will it last?

As as review, comparing my trim from Dec 10 to April 11, I have had alot of hair growth. I will probably get my hair trimmed again for my 1 year mark in Aug 11.

NEXT THOUGHT: Still thinking of summer hair care.

Looks like a perfect TWIST OUT

Keeping up with my beloved FAMU news, there is an article on the Rattler Nation Blog about fellow alumna T'Keyah Crystal Keymah. I have always loved her hair! The picture that is included in the articles looks like the perfect twist out!

Check out the link here.

I did try something new, but it was a fail!

Monday night, I shampooed/condished with my Alba Botanical I mentioned in previous post (yes, I still shampoo). My leave in condish was the Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioning Milk, which I purchased a few bottles of during the BOGO at Walgreens then sealed with Coconut Oil. The next morning I added some Aloe Vera Gel for a quick wash and go puff.

Last night I just ran water over my head in the shower, dried and then applied a little Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk to add moisture for two strand flat twist. As I was twisting, I was thinking of how I could add height to the top of my hair, so I thought about when I was wearing my relaxed hair how it would get a wrap and have the one or two rollers on top, so I decided to so a regular two strand twist where a roller would go.

This morning I untwisted with coconut oil....didn't like it. Soooooo I just rocked a fluffy puff with a bang. Since the puff was fluffy, I didn't want to use gel on my edges so I just used my water spray bottle for moisture and brushed it up.

Next thought....I may try a full roller set and stop holding my head down when I take the pics, lol!

A day of hair

Tried a new style.

Started with flat twisted down using Shea Moisture Conditioning Curl & Style Milk. I did have to put a few clips to stretch the braid a little. Tied my hair with a satin scarf for the night.

The next morning, I put a little Curl Milk on the ends and then Coconut Oil on my hands as I "carefully" loosened each row.

I thought it came out pretty cute, minus the twist that was hanging by itself.

Off to run errands...then the rain...

I didn't have a lot of shrinkage, style was still rather cute. I don't really know how to maintain it, but to flat twist it down every night, but I don't think that will work.

New Hair Styles

Tried a couple of different styles this week, but lost my pictures because I got a new cell phone. So I just have to describe them. All turned out pretty good, so I may do them again.

The goal was to have a different style a day based on a twist out. Sunday I tried some new products since I was out of town and didn't bring all mine so I used what my aunt and cousin used.

Shampoo/Condish with Infusium 23 Moisture Replenish and Leave In. While PC, I used Infusium and wasn't pleased so using it now had me pretty nervous, but it was pretty good. The Leave In wasn't like my Paul Mitchell, kind of on the watery side.

Sealant - Jojoba Oil which was ok, but I still love my Coconut Oil

Style Product - Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 - really nervous about this because it was a cream coming out of a spray bottle O_0!

Style of Day - Two Strand Twist - While twisting, I noticed my hair is actually growing, the twist in the front come down to my eyes, but still about 1 1/2 inch of shrinkage, but that was ok.

Monday Style: Twist out - very cute, I didn't have to add head bands or flat twist, wore it to work and rocked it.

but...went to the gym and couldn't rock it the next day.

Tuesday Style: Eco Styler Gel sides for a puff...so cute!

Wednesday Style: Eco Styler Gel sides for a puff, but did a bang twist. Thanks to Nisus staple style from It's Just Hair. My hair isn't has long as her's so i pinned them back

Thursday Style: Same as Wednesday

Thursday night: Shampoo/Condish with Alba Honeydew Nourishing (LOVE IT) deep condish with Avocado Mix. Two Strand Twist

Friday Style: Twist out with head bands

So, I think I did pretty good with the styles this week.
Next thought: more reversible styles!

Let's Try It

I tried a new style!

I have been so fixated on flat twist for the last two weeks and decided I need something else. During my youtube research, MsVCharles gave a tutorial of her "My one hairstyle for ANY occasion". Hum, cute. So I gave it try.

First while wide toothing my hair out, I broke my comb. Wow! My hair is really think, I thought.

Used the Argan Eco Styler Gel to smooth back in to mini puff. Prepared the extension hair for bun. Looks pretty cute, cute enough not to use my hand mirror to see how it look from the back...off to work.

Before

After

Used my "built in work photography studio"...the bathroom stall...to take pictures. I DIDN'T LIKE IT. My hair is way to wavy for the straight braid hair. At least the local beauty supply store is 2 minutes away from the job, so I went to pick up a pack of kinky twist hair. Retwist the bun and repinned in my vehicle in the jobs parking lot, lol! Pic retakes in the studio and then complete satisfacation. Really cute do. Thanks MsVCharles!

Oh yeah, ran into one of my hair admirers on the way out to beauty store. His question, "Do you ever keep the same hairstyle for two days?" Me, of course I do!

Next thought....more than two day hair styles, lol!

New Style...FLAT TWIST

I can finally do some styles with my hair!!!!! It's been 6 months since my big chop and I'm still lovin my natural hair!

Utlitmate Favorite Style- Wash and Go with Flat Twist in front.

Fresh done Finger Coils

Finger Coils

Two Strand Twist Out...it got bigger throught the day...didn't really like end results.

Finger Coil-out...with my lil boy acting silly.

I am still deep conditioning once a week with the Avocado Mix. I tried to replace the condition with something new....bad mistake. My intention was to try another "cheaper" conditioner, which I still swear by HE Hello Hydration and I like the Suave Rosemary Condish. I decided to try the Garnier Fortifying Shamp/Condish (I still like to shampoo my hair :) ) The product read that it will replenish moisture and add shine. UMMMM not for my hair. After my 1 hour session, my hair was not moisturized, it was not fluffy and it was not soft. But my trusty ole HE. My hair was back to fluffy and soft.
So the lesson learned...not sure yet, lol. I will still play and remember my goal is not to become a product junky!
My new leave in conditioner is Paul Mitchell The Original Conditioner. A little goes a long way.

I have learned to prepoo on my sweaty gym days.
During my research of other blogs, Mahogany Knots, I came across a style that I just HAD to try. Here's my story....a few months ago, I had a bad hair day during the work hours and decided to go to the local "chinaman store" to grab a product for my hair. I was reading alot about Cantu, so I decided to pick something up. My choice was the Oil Moisturizer which was not what I was looking for so it "road around" in my vehicle for days and months unitl I watched the Mahogany Knots video for a Flat Twist style.

Of course my hair isn't as long as hers but I decided to give it a try. I used a little Eco Styler Gel with Argan Oil (I like better than Olive Oil) on the roots and edges to style and then the Cantu on the remainder. My hair wasn't long enough for the two twist pin for the back, so I flat twist to the side and two twits the ends. Pulled
the ends apart and walla my new style was born. I believe I can wear it was about a week and then untwist for a lil twist out fro.

I did make a decision to trim my ends before Christmas....another thing I learned...I really didn't need to get my ends trimmed, so I will not be doing that to often.
NEXT THOUGHT: New Styles and a new deep conditioner.
Oh yeah...I have a twitter account so follow me. It will be mostly about my hair experiences and other odds and ends that come across my eye sight!
www.twitter.com/SunShineBrown I guess that will be @SunShineBrown...lol
