Let's Try It

I tried a new style!

I have been so fixated on flat twist for the last two weeks and decided I need something else. During my youtube research, MsVCharles gave a tutorial of her "My one hairstyle for ANY occasion". Hum, cute. So I gave it try.

First while wide toothing my hair out, I broke my comb. Wow! My hair is really think, I thought.

Used the Argan Eco Styler Gel to smooth back in to mini puff. Prepared the extension hair for bun. Looks pretty cute, cute enough not to use my hand mirror to see how it look from the back...off to work.

Before

After

Used my "built in work photography studio"...the bathroom stall...to take pictures. I DIDN'T LIKE IT. My hair is way to wavy for the straight braid hair. At least the local beauty supply store is 2 minutes away from the job, so I went to pick up a pack of kinky twist hair. Retwist the bun and repinned in my vehicle in the jobs parking lot, lol! Pic retakes in the studio and then complete satisfacation. Really cute do. Thanks MsVCharles!

Oh yeah, ran into one of my hair admirers on the way out to beauty store. His question, "Do you ever keep the same hairstyle for two days?" Me, of course I do!

Next thought....more than two day hair styles, lol!

New Style...FLAT TWIST

I can finally do some styles with my hair!!!!! It's been 6 months since my big chop and I'm still lovin my natural hair!

Two Strand Twist Out...it got bigger throught the day...didn't really like end results.

Finger Coil-out...with my lil boy acting silly.

I am still deep conditioning once a week with the Avocado Mix. I tried to replace the condition with something new....bad mistake. My intention was to try another "cheaper" conditioner, which I still swear by HE Hello Hydration and I like the Suave Rosemary Condish. I decided to try the Garnier Fortifying Shamp/Condish (I still like to shampoo my hair :) ) The product read that it will replenish moisture and add shine. UMMMM not for my hair. After my 1 hour session, my hair was not moisturized, it was not fluffy and it was not soft. But my trusty ole HE. My hair was back to fluffy and soft.
So the lesson learned...not sure yet, lol. I will still play and remember my goal is not to become a product junky!
My new leave in conditioner is Paul Mitchell The Original Conditioner. A little goes a long way.

I have learned to prepoo on my sweaty gym days.
During my research of other blogs, Mahogany Knots, I came across a style that I just HAD to try. Here's my story....a few months ago, I had a bad hair day during the work hours and decided to go to the local "chinaman store" to grab a product for my hair. I was reading alot about Cantu, so I decided to pick something up. My choice was the Oil Moisturizer which was not what I was looking for so it "road around" in my vehicle for days and months unitl I watched the Mahogany Knots video for a Flat Twist style.

Of course my hair isn't as long as hers but I decided to give it a try. I used a little Eco Styler Gel with Argan Oil (I like better than Olive Oil) on the roots and edges to style and then the Cantu on the remainder. My hair wasn't long enough for the two twist pin for the back, so I flat twist to the side and two twits the ends. Pulled
the ends apart and walla my new style was born. I believe I can wear it was about a week and then untwist for a lil twist out fro.

I did make a decision to trim my ends before Christmas....another thing I learned...I really didn't need to get my ends trimmed, so I will not be doing that to often.
NEXT THOUGHT: New Styles and a new deep conditioner.
Oh yeah...I have a twitter account so follow me. It will be mostly about my hair experiences and other odds and ends that come across my eye sight!
www.twitter.com/SunShineBrown I guess that will be @SunShineBrown...lol

I have been learning and doing a lot with my hair these past couple of weeks. Some good experiences and some bad :). I plan to post a few pics of some styles that I tried. I am continuing to research what is best for my hair and I can say, I do know what is NOT best.

Stay tuned.

4 Months TODAY!!!!

I'm 4 months NATURAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am learning so much about my hair. I have started a regiment which I am very excited about and I have notice hair growth!

Every Sunday I deep condition with a homemade avocado mix.
1 avocado
1/2 can coconut milk
2 tablespoons of pure honey
2 table spoons of coconut oil
a few squirts of Suave Rosemary and Mint Conditioner.

I use my emergent blender to mix everything up. After I shampoo and condition my hair, I put the mix all over and then use a plastic cap for the mixture to sit on my hair for about 1 hour. After the hour, I rinse out with cold water, apply a leave conditioner and then style.

Since it has been cool in the mornings, I haven't done many wash and goes. So for my protective style in November, I rocked braids using the Kinky Twist hair for three weeks (hence my absence of posting :).

I am still experimenting with different products, but still keeping in mind, not to turn in to the ultimate product junky. I have read so much about Yest to Carrots and Giovanni. While at my local Target, I found mini samples of each that was in my budget and of course I had to buy and then if I didn't like it, I didn't spend a whole lot of money nor do I have gigantic bottles of product just sitting around.

I have also been visiting my local health food store, the Vitamin Shoppe. I was able to find the J/A/S/O/N products half off!!!!! So yes, I did buy it, although it was in its original bottle, I didn't feel bad if I didn't like it since I only paid a few dollars.

I am still continuing to research to find out different product's that may work for my hair. I am still madly in love with Shea Moisture products. I have purchased Tressemme - only used once. Yes to Carrots - love the conditioner. J/A/S/O/N - only used once. I am currently using ECO Olive Oil Gel which I love, but I have come across a homemade recipe for gel using FLAX SEEDs...this is a must try.

I have been thinking about straightening my hair during the Christmas Holiday's to get my ends clipped. I am a little nervous about it because I have been reading about heat damage. So I must continue my research to find the right product to protect my hair while straight.

NEXT THOUGHT - Protecting hair from heat damage.

Here are a few styles that I have been wearing during my 4 months.

Experimenting

I am still continuing to research this life of Natural Hair. I have found lots of interesting facts and recipes. One of my favorite blogs to visit is MopTop Maven. She has a conditioner recipe that I tried last night which is suppose to help with dry hair. 1 avocado, 1 can of coconut milk, 2 tablespoons of raw honey, 2 tablespoons of favorite oil (I used cocunut oil) and I added about 2 tablespoons of Suave Rosemary and Mint conditioner. I let it set on my hair for about 1 hour. I had lots left over, which I stored in the refrigerator. My results....my hair was soft and had lots of mositure. For sleep, I added my leave in conditioner ( Ganier Leave-In) and put my hair in 2 strand twist bantu knots. This morning my hair was soft and still full of moisture.

I am proud to say I can do a puff now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So cute :0)

Next thought...protective styles for the winter.

Still Researching

I am still trying to find a fix to my sometime dry, fizzy hair. I am still not wanting to become a product junkie, so I am retrying the products that I currently own until there are used up. I have been using the Shea Moisture products; Curl Enhancer and Deep Conditioning. I think I have found out that the Curl Enhancer doesn't mix well with the Coconut Oil I have been using to lock in moisture. Right now I use Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner, Garnier Leave In Conditioner and Curls curl enhancer products. I haven't use the Coconut Oil with curls, but my hair seems not to be frizzy.

I have also tried a couple of different styles which I will post pics later.

Next thought: Next product to try...I'm almost done with what I have...heee,heee,heee!
